Desert Botanical Engagement Session with Shannon

March 21, 2018

We are so excited to feature this awesome couple on the blog today and share a bit of Scott and Jenn’s story! Though we had met via Skype a few months ago when they booked (they are from Seattle), this was the first time we actually got to get together in person! They flew out from Seattle to plan some details for their fall wedding, and we thought it was the perfect time to squeeze in their engagment session, like literally right before they left for their flight! these two are travel troopers! Scott and Jenn picked the Desert Botanical Gardens for their AZ engagement shoot and we thought it was a great place for a sunny spring day!  Though they both said they were a little camera, shy, from the moment the shoot started, these two connected in such a fun and sweet way, that the time absolutely flew by! These two laughed so much during their session and we cannot wait for this gorgeous wedding at the Montelucia! We love their engagement story and how Scott popped the question, its the cutest and most elaborate story that had Jenn going the entire time until the ring popped out! Way to go Scott! See you guys again soon! – Shannon, Jenn and The Studio girls

“ I think what makes our relationship work so well is because we are complete opposites in personalities but love to laugh.  Jenn loves laughing and I love making her laugh.  She is a very easy going person and helps me enjoy the little things in life.  I don’t know if I would know what roses smelled like if it wasn’t for her. “ – Scott

“It’s hard to actually pinpoint an exact moment or time that I knew I was in love with him. I’ve known Scott for a long time-years before we ever started dating and during that time, calling us friends might have even been a stretch. But I was, in some ways, always drawn to him so it was very easy to move into a space of loving him. “ – Jenn

“AND THE RING! Oh, it is everything! We had never gone browsing for rings and luckily Scott knew that winging this one was risky and reached out to the same friend for some ring ideas-and of course she had access to my secret Pinterest board as most friends do so it came exactly as I dreamed it would.” – Jenn

“So our proposal story….. This is my absolute favorite story to tell and one I’ll never grow tired of telling. Scott and I had planned to have a date night and revisit doing something that we used to love to do when I lived in my old apartment-walk into downtown bar hopping and having fun the entire way.

He took me to a place close to my old apartment where we grabbed a little snack and a beer before we started our venture. As we left, he (convincing me that it was ME going back and forth) struggled with whether we should continue with our plans or make a detour to the waterfront-it happened to be the most beautiful and warm day Seattle had seen so far that year. We eventually decided the waterfront was the way to go and made our way there. On our walk, my friend (who had cleverly taken me to get my nails done that day prior to a trip we had coming up to London) reached out wanting us to meet up with her and her husband. After some push back from Scott, he finally agreed that we should grab a drink with them in a neighborhood that was close. When we found out they were about 5 mins away from us, we decided to meet them in Seattle’s Olympic Sculpture Park to walk into town together.

When we got there, we chatted for a few minutes and then, per her request, I took a picture of Jen and Phil with the scenic views of the Puget Sound behind them. When she asked if we wanted a picture, I declined (wasn’t really feeling my hair that day) but Scott insisted-it was, after all, a picturesque day. When we stood together for the photo, Jen came up and handed me a wrapped gift. Confused, I looked around for guidance on what to do with the reply of “just open it!” So, I did.

What was inside was a journal of a love letter and pictures chronicling my relationship with Scott. The pictures each had captions around special moments or things he loved about me and so on. When I turned to the first page without a photo, there was a caption at the bottom that read “The picture that I am putting up here was taken on the day I tricked you into walking to Sculpture Park because I wanted to tell you how much you mean to me. This was a special day. 5/20/17”

I blacked out. But then I said yes!! It was the happiest moment of my life! The only caveat was that my parents live in Texas and it was important to me that Scott ask them for my hand in marriage which I thought at the time he hadn’t. But little did I know that he had tricked me into believing that he had stayed the night with his parents a few weeks prior to help with a move but rather, flew to Texas for 24 hours to surprise my parents and ask for my hand. I knew then even more that I had made the right choice in my partner.

We then made our way to another surprise-all my friends waiting for us and an engagement party!! I can’t honestly think of a more perfect day with a more perfect person. It was so much more than I could have ever imagined. I only hope our wedding has a shot at topping this!” – Jenn

“My favorite thing about my  fiance is….. her ability to have fun no matter where she is.  This might result in her dancing in public when there is no music and I am just standing there but it helps me realize never to take things too seriously. “ – Scott

“The first time we said I love you… well to be honest, we can’t remember!  Jenn and I first met 10 years ago when we were both working at the same place.  We were co-workers for 5 years before before we started dating so everything felt very natural.  We may have said “I love you” to each other after 5-6 months but it wasn’t monumental because it was very clear we were in love all along.” – Scott

“Our first kiss was after a baseball game. We were still feeling out the friend to more than a friend zone and this pretty much sealed the deal. While it’s not the most romantic setting, it was a great moment that led to many more.” – Jenn

We can’t wait for your big day Scott and Jenn! – Shannon
